As a community-based project, our aim is to reduce poverty, protect nature’s beauty, and help people find peace of mind, all in the pursuit of a world where true happiness thrives.
Metta Trust, founded in 2013, is dedicated to creating lasting change by developing communities, protecting the environment, and promoting mental and physical well-being. What began as a simple act of kindness in building new homes and school facilities in rural Sri Lanka, has grown into a wide network of support for communities across the UK and Sri Lanka.
The charity work is driven by the success of Plantation Villa, a wellness retreat that was first based in Sri Lanka, and funds approximately 95% of the charity’s projects through its programs in yoga, mindfulness and Ayurveda. As the vision evolved, Metta Trust sought to address more than just poverty, aiming to teach people how to live in harmony with nature by reforesting and protecting wildlife. This led to the opening of a second Plantation Villa in Herefordshire UK in 2022, broadening Metta Trust’s reach and expanding it’s mission to assist with the rising of mental health issues in the UK.

At the heart of our mission lies the Buddhist principle of Metta—loving-kindness and compassion for all beings—a philosophy that guides us to focus on others’ welfare, remain compassionate in adversity, and cultivate a calm, peaceful mind.
Metta Trust is rooted in a rich tradition of community care, inspired by the legacy of Wattalaya Watta, once the most generous household in Nehinna village, and carried forward by our founder Ishara as a unified community project through Metta Trust and Plantation Villa.
We believe a nurturing connection to nature is essential for human well-being and happiness, helping to reduce stress, calm the mind, and support a sustainable future for our shared planet.
Though we all seek happiness, lasting fulfillment is found not in fleeting pleasures but in cultivating a strong, unshaken mind—a principle from the Buddha’s teachings that inspires our vision for a world of enduring happiness for all beings.
